Quick review of 2020
2020 has been an extremely painful year for people all around the world. The outbreak of Covid-19 caused thousands of lives. However, there also happened a series of events which sought the attention of people and diverted their minds during the challenging times. Here is a list of some of those events!
IHC ordered to relocate Kaavan to Cambodia
During 2020, when human race was going through a tough experience, Islamabad High Court gave a judgement on May 22nd that depicted empathy. The decision ordered to send Kaavan to Cambodia. In Pakistan, Kaavan was living without a partner since many years and it was causing him mental illness. Kaavan reached Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary on November 29th.
First female three-star general of the Pakistan Army
June 30th marked as a significant day in the history of Pakistan when Lieutenant General Nigar Johar became the first female officer to be appointed as a three-star Lieutenant General in the Pakistan Army. She achieved this success owing to her leadership skills. She is now serving as the Pakistan Army’s first female surgeon. She has also received Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Military) and Fatima Jinnah Gold Medal for her services from the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Social media platforms like PUBG and TikTok were temporarily banned
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) temporarily banned PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) on July 1st owing to the various complaints received against the game.
The authority mentioned in its statement that PUBG is being banned because of the complaints against the game for being wastage of time and addictive. It was also considered responsible for posing serious negative impact on youth as well as few suicides were also reported in media caused by this game. On October 9th, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) blocked TikTok for being unsuccessful in removing the unethical content. PTA highlighted a number of complaints received by different segments of the society against the indecent content uploaded by users on the platform.
The ban was lifted by PTA on October 19th after assurances that the management will remain alert and block accounts promoting obscene content.
Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated Peshawar BRT
The residents of Peshawar were looking forward to the completion of the BRT project since three years. After a number of delays, it was finally inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan on August 13th. BRT was inaugurated with the belief that it will provide relief to people with its affordability.
Rains in Karachi
During the month of August, Sindh witnessed a number of moderate to heavy spells of rain. Karachi experienced rain up to 484mm which was the highest recorded level in the past nine decades. The heavy rainfall also resulted in over flooded drains, floods in commercial and residential areas as well as power outages for several days.
Karachi Kings won PSL for the first time
Karachi Kings won Pakistan Super League for the first time on November 17th after defeating Lahore Qalandars. Kings defeated Qalandars by five wickets. This is the first time that all the matches of the tournament were played in Pakistan. The tournament started in the beginning of 2020 however, matches were delayed due to the outbreak of Covid-19.
Samina Ahmed and Manzar Sehbai tied the knot
Veteran Pakistani actors Manzar Sehbai and Samina Ahmed tied the knot on April 4th. The couple neither announced their marriage date nor shared pictures of the ceremony. However, their fans looked extremely happy after seeing their favorite actors together. The couple garnered many prayers from their well-wishers.

The entire Pakistani nation waited for the conclusion of their favorite drama serial ‘Mere Pas Tum Ho’ with their fingers crossed, regardless of any age or gender. The drama serial received immense love and attention from the viewers. The popularity of the drama serial was not only confined to the screen, but the public also enjoyed various mems related to the serial
Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Rallies
The 11-party alliance, Pakistan Democratic Movement started a protest campaign countrywide against the present government. The alliance held their power show in Gujranwala, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, Multan and Lahore.
The alliance had also announced that their parliamentarians will resign from their respective constituencies by December 31st. JUI(F) chief, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman has also announced a long march in Islamabad to end the government of Imran Khan.
