On Friday, 12 August 2022 the Army Chief addressed the passing out parade at the Royal Military Academy. He is the first Pakistani to be invited as a special guest. The event was the passing out parade of the 213 Regular Commissioning Course.

Apart from the UK cadets, 41 international cadets from 26 different countries participated in the passing-out ceremony. Two Pakistani cadets of the Pakistan Military Academy were also included, including Cadet Muhammad Abdullah Babar Malik and Cadet Mujtaba. A parade salute was presented to the COAS on arrival at RMAS.

According to the UK Ministry of Defense, General Bajwa represented the Queen at the Sovereign Parade for Commissioning Course 213 (CC213) at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) on Friday. The parade was attended by dozens of heads of state. It was 198 parades in which General Bajwa participated and represented Pakistan.

General Bajwa expressed his gratitude to the Queen of Great Britain calling it a great honor. General Bajwa congratulated the passing out cadets and their families for the success of the training course.

General Bajwa Addressed:

He started his address with a slam and good morning. Then he appreciated the cadets and their parents for their achievements. He said that the bondage between the Pakistan and England armed forces is uniquely special.

 He said:

The journey ahead of you is both challenging and exciting. As you grow, the demands of professional skills will need. Decision-making is also very important. You need the will to take decisions and take full responsibility. It will require confidence and competence.

In his address, he said that confidence and unwavering trust is the main key to your success. Confidence makes you strong even in a crisis. He said no one is born professional. We get it through constant pursuit. Without it, you cannot achieve professional competence, which is the main trait of successful military leadership.

The journey is challenging and exciting as well that awaits you. The demands and responsibilities of professional military service will increase with your service. You need to equip yourself with skills to gain the respect and trust of your subordinates.

As a leader, you must need to have the courage and the ability to take difficult decisions and then accept full responsibility. Correct decision-making needs competence and confidence. That can only be learned through high-class military education, and training. In the words of Sir Basil Liddle Hart and I quote

“An officer, who has not studied military history as science, is of little use beyond the rank of a captain”.

He mentioned Field Marshal Philip Walhouse Chetwode’s quote in last.

“The safety, honor and welfare of your country come first, always and every time. The honor, welfare and comfort of the men you command come next. Your own ease, comfort and safety come last, always and every time” end quote.

These eternal words are boldly etched even today on the walls of Brig Francis Ingall Memorial Hall, in Pakistan Military Academy to remind every officer cadet of the importance of these essential tenets of military leadership.

The primary reason for armed forces to exist today should not be to prosecute wars but to ensure that they do not take place. Mankind’s destiny, more than ever before, hinges on our collective capacity to come together and take the route of peace and cooperation instead of conflict, communication instead of clash, and multilateralism instead of self-preservation.

In the interest of world peace, we must strive to preserve the vitality, relevance and internal sense of impartiality in multilateral institutions, maintain consensus on the collective defense of global commons and uphold the prestige of international law. In case we fail to do that, I am afraid we may end up destroying the beautiful world that we have.

In the end, my dear officer cadets, I wish and pray for your rewarding careers ahead. May you serve your country with honor, dignity, and pride! Taking this opportunity, I would like to applaud the efforts of the Commandant and his team for this impressive parade and finally, before leaving the podium, I would like to pay my rich tribute to Major General Duncan Capps, Commandant of Royal Military Academy who is retiring today.

Be rest assured General, that your 37 years of meritorious services will always be remembered and acknowledged. I wish you all the best and God speed for your future endeavors.
