Drugs for youth are a means for their destruction. As time moves on, the continued use of drugs leads to the destruction of the future generation and the social order of humanity. The study revealed that well-educated youth are more susceptible to drug abuse. To discover the role of parents in concerning the future goals of their children, the role of educational institutes in controlling drug abuse, and the healthy relationship among stakeholders for the overall development or nourishment of youth. Drug addiction among Pakistani youth in academic institutions has increased over the year and has caused a chaotic situation, especially in Islamic countries like Pakistan.
The study employed a qualitative research methodology that involved in-depth discussions with drug-addicted students from various public institutions in Pakistan in order to obtain insight into the situation. Narratives and theme evaluation were both used to analyze the information. Drug addiction among Pakistani youth in academic institutions is more likely in higher education senior, like in universities, which in result affected their daily life routines.
The study reveals how drug addiction among Pakistani youth in academic institutions are not taken seriously which result made student using drugs with much confidence without any restrictions. Drug addiction among Pakistani youth in academic institutions or in any other country are happening because the student can be under pressure from academic, parental issue, poverty, and so on. As the world is getting more advance with so many technologies leading toward no jobs, no proper educational studies, etc.

Unfortunately, our educational system does not train or explain how coup with stress and depression because of studies. There should be a counseling room for the students who are suffering because of background problems, poverty, or academic stress. There should be a proper class for drug awareness about how the use of drugs can be the worst nightmare and what be consequences. Moreover, there should be a seminar about how to control drug addiction among Pakistani youth in academic institutions and raise awareness about student depression, stress, psychological, physical, and mental effects, and effects on humanity. Students who are more into smoking should learn about its effects and how it turns into cancer.

Types of Drugs
Instead of making a separate area for Smoking in universities, there should be strict prohibition and fines for breaking rules. In Pakistan, students are more into Chaliya, Gutka, Naswar, Cigarettes, and pan, whereas, hard drugs type like Heroin, Opium, Cocaine, Ice and sheesha and so the list goes on, even though all types of drug are banned in Pakistan.
A supportive and admirable atmosphere can help drug addicts, it is the most essential way to protect addicts from mental disorders and physical disorders. a healthy environment can prevent this disastrous situation.
The action took place in Pakistan and arrests
Back in 2020, when former prime minister Imran Khan took action against drug addiction among Pakistani youth in academic institutions. Hammad Dogar, director of the Anti-Narcotics Force, made a startling admission during a seminar at Rawalpindi’s Arid Agriculture University in 2018: “67% of university students in Pakistan take illegal narcotics.” The data’s veracity was questioned across the country after Shehryar Khan Afridi, the country’s interior minister at the time, highlighted them on television.
Drug addiction among Pakistani youth in academic institutions became under the light when in 2018 when a survey of around ten universities took place which in result caused an uproar. In November 2018 two students of Quaid-e-Azam University of Islamabad were arrested for having 3kg of hashish or marijuana. Exact same month and same university three Nigerians were arrested for drugs worth 8.5 million Pakistani Rupees. According to police, it was revealed that they were distributed among students.
As a result made former PM Imran Khan Take action, and announced the establishment of a special council comprised of officials from many ministries, such as the healthcare and education departments. Imran Khan stated that “This synthetic drug called ice (crystal methamphetamine) has penetrated schools and colleges. Drugs destroy children’s character, discipline, health, and their future,” as police discovered the use of ice among the students.
The great that made by the previous government was that they kept check and balance of students using drugs and took serious action against it. Made policy to test drug intake before they start classes after admission so they can prevent students from falling prey. According to researchers, morphine, opium, cocaine, hashish, and cannabis are by far the most frequently used drugs by college students, and family responsibilities stress, exam-related anxiety, drug availability, and the bad influences of narcotic friends or roommates are the most frequently cited causes of students developing a substance abuse problem.

Head of Community Medicine at CMH Lahore Medical College Professor Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Chaudhry showed his concern by saying that drug addiction basically starts from Gutka and Chaliya. The reason why drug addiction among Pakistani youth in academic institutions is because of powerful people’s support from the back. He also referred to how drugs are distributed through agents and dealers earning millions of rupees by selling among students.
He included that sometimes parents also sense their children are on drugs through laziness, bad smell, long naps or always sleep, lock their rooms, difficulties in breathing, more demand for pocket money, bad grades, strong nervous breakdowns, and so on. If these symptoms are too prominent should take action against them.
