Ayesha Omar and Yasir Hussain starrer film was based on a serial killer named Javed Iqbal who kidnapped and sexually assaulted around 100 children in Lahore during 1998-99. This film’s storyline revolves around its investigation process and how the police tackled and worked on the case.
This film was supposed to release in December but due to Covid its release was delayed. Now it was to be launched in January but has been banned now.
Abu Aleeha in his recent twitter post on Thursday suggested to screen any drama’s first or last episode since the movie was not being screened. This showed his discontent towards the board’s decision. It is told by the board officials that initially censor board had called to edit and cut some scenes from the movie but the director didn’t follow the guidelines. This led to banning of Javed Iqbal. On the other hand, director, Abu Aleeha, has decided to take matters into court. Now, the film would again be under observation by the board. That would eventually decide the fate of this movie.

Since its ban there has been outrage on social media against it. Comments and posts have been pouring down showing people’s reaction. Iqra Aziz, wife of Yasir Hussain, has posted on Instagram showing her disappointment towards the board’s action. She argued that this is the reason behind why movies aside romance and comedy are not being made. In her earlier posts, she was seen excited about Yasir’s upcoming project, Javed Iqbal, which now to her dismay is banned.
Some people suggest that this shows the ugly part of our society where brutal realities are hidden under the rug and are not allowed to be shown in the light of the day. Javed Iqbal was a true story which has been kept away from public’s eyes for a long time.
People have been arguing about how story telling has been a vital part of our culture and banning of this kind of media forces the artists to stay in a limited guarded space. This has taken away much of quality content that could have been presented to the people. This is one the reasons why the entertainment industry is limited to the production of one type of genre, light hearted romance or comedy.
