Hack by 18 year old forces ride sharing giant Uber to shut down its systems

It has come to common knowledge that ride sharing giant Uber’s system has been hacked. Apparently, the system was hacked by an 18 year old. Currently, this breach of cyber security is under investigation.

The hacker, on Thursday, was able to access the company’s AWS, Duo, OneLogin, G Suite, VMware vSphere domain accounts, and other domains. The hacker then provided some authentic looking screenshots to prove that he really had access to the company’s internal data. Though it seems that whatever happened was done as a kind of joke.

How did he get access? Well the hacker pretended to be an I.T person and messaged one of the employees to send him his login credentials. By simply fooling the employee and getting access to his login, the hacker was able to breach the entire system.

At first, the majority of the staff did not take it seriously and kept it as a joke but later an email with the subject as important surfaced and people realized the seriousness of the situation. It then came to common knowledge that Uber’s system was really hacked by an 18 year old.

It is assumed that the 18 year old hacker had no serious intentions but hacked the system as fun since he kept sending screenshots as a proof and whenever someone tried to access the site a pornographic image would appear, hence the jokes.

Uber has been hacked before also in 2016. In fact. At that time they did not report it to the cyber security department for investigation. It is known that they paid a humongous amount of money to the hacker in return for a signed agreement by the hacker. The amount is estimated to be around $100,000. That agreement binded the previous hacker to not to disclose or use people’s data and delete it permanently. The Uber team declared it as one of their security tests to cover up the embarrassment. Since then, Uber’s cyber security has been under question by the people.

Hacking of this giant’s data means that data of millions of people is at stake.. Their address, mobile numbers and other personal details can be accessed by anyone and can be used for any kind of ill purpose.  Now this time Uber has made it clear that the current hacking by an 18 year old is under investigation under the cyber security department. Soon the situation will be uncovered and details will be revealed.

It is also necessary to understand that any person should not give away their personal details or passwords of any account to anyone. If there’s a problem with someone’s account the situation should be handled properly and the company’s I.T department should be accessed. Even then the password need not to be disclosed since the department would have complete data, including the passwords. The I.T department can only use this sensitive data with the concerned person’s permission, in order to resolve any kind of technical problem.

These precautions are necessary to be taken in order to avoid incidents like this i.e., getting hacked by an 18 year old and putting private information of millions of people at stake.
