The emergency decision to continue trade with India has been refused by the Cabinet until the status of Kashmir is restored
On Thursday, the federal cabinet turned down the emergency decision of importing sugar and cotton from India until the status of Kashmir is restored. The decision of importing goods was taken by the Economic Coordination Council (ECC) which was opposed by the Cabinet so that the sentiments of Kashmiri people do not get hurt.
In a meeting with Federal ministers Asad Umar, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Shireen Mazari and Sheikh Rasheed the Prime Minister Imran Khan declined the idea of trading with India until it restores the status of Kashmir. The ministers also agreed with the prime minister whereas the Minister of Planning Asad Umer opposed this decision during the ECC meeting as well.
The trade between India and Pakistan has been suspended for almost two years due to the abrogation of article 370 in Kashmir. Pakistan’s Prime Minister and other cabinet members have the same stance to not continue any kind of trade with India until it restores the status of Kashmir. The prime Minister Imran Khan said that he doesn’t want to hurt the sentiments of Kashmiri people. He added more that Pakistani people are standing strong with the people of Kashmir and provide them full support at every level. Prime Minister Imran Khan said, “No normalization of relations with India until it reversed its illegal actions”.
The news about Economic Coordination Council (ECC) decision was broke on many media channels and referred as the decision made by the government without any confirmation. On that Shireen Mazari, the minister of human rights said that the Economic Coordination Council (ECC) decisions have to be approved by the federal cabinet and then by the government, media should know that.
The foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in a private TV channel told that according to all ministers in cabinet including prime minister the relationship with India cannot be normalized at any cost until India restores the status of Kashmir.
Until or unless India does not take the decision of restoring the status of Kashmir, Pakistan is not going to negotiate. Pakistan will remain inflexible and will not change the decision of boycott India until the IIOK (Indian illegally occupied Kashmir) gets its status back to August 5.
