Pakistan bus-tanker accident ignites the fire, killing 20 people

Another case of reckless driving causing an accident happened. In Pakistan a bus tanker accident happened claiming the lives of 20 people.

The accident happened on the Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M-5) between a bus and an oil tanker near the Jalal Pur Pirwala Interchange, almost 350 kms away from Lahore.

According to reports 3 buses were over speeding and one of them collided with an oil tanker. This crash ignited fire. 20 people were burned alive. Most of the people were asleep when the accident happened. Their bodies are beyond recognition and will need DNA tests for identification. 6 people were sent to nearby Multan Nishtar Hospital for treatment.

Their condition is also highly critical. According to Amjad Chandio, Medical Superintendent of Multan Nishtar Hospital, the burned victims were immediately sent to the burned unit of the hospital.

The buses belonged to Daewoo Company. It was supposed to reach the Southern port of Karachi but it met its fate before reaching its destination. The bus carried 24 passengers and 2 drivers when it took off from Lahore.

The oil tanker, containing a thousand liters of petrol, collided with the bus and now is beyond recognition also. The driver of the tanker fled the scene of the bus tanker accident.

According to Multan Commissioner, Amir Khattak, the time of the bus tanker accident was 4 am but according to the Rescue 1122 provincial center the accident happened around 2.20 am.

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi took notice of the accident. He sent his condolences towards the grieving families and made sure that injured people received proper medical health care. He called for an investigation of the case to find whoever was responsible for the accident.

In another case, like the Pakistan bus tanker accident, a bus overturned near Rohri that took the lives of 8 people. 38 people were injured including the driver. The accident happened because the driver was unable to control the bus at a sharp turn. The accident happened on National Highway. The bus was coming from Karachi and was meant to reach Swat. The dead include 4 women and 2 children according to the Rescue 1122 officials. The dead were shifted to Rohri Taluka Hospital while the injured were later shifted to civil and district hospitals.

Such cases of accidents are becoming common in Pakistan where negligence on the part of the driver claims the life of many people and leaves grieving families a loss of a lifetime. Along with this poor infrastructure and broken roads are also one of the major causes of such accidents. The related authorities need to take proper investigation to figure out who was responsible for the Pakistan bus tanker accident.

Proper actions need to be taken by the authorities to curb such cases of negligence by drivers. The bus companies also need to investigate such cases to find out the causes and then derive better policies for the sake of people’s lives and its security. Only then such cases like the Pakistan bus tanker accident can be avoided or at least lessened.
