The Sindh government has confirmed the first cases of UK variant Covid-19 in Karachi on Tuesday. The UK variant Covid-19 was found among the passengers who returned from UK in the last 12 days. The respective authorities have now started a huge exercise to reach the relatives and friends of these patient.
The provincial health department has also released a statement in this regard mentioning that they had taken samples of 12 UK returnees for genotyping. The results showed that 6 out of the 12 returnees were positive while 3 of the positive patients possessed the new variant of Covid-19 in the first phase. The genotyping has showed 95% resemblance of the new variant from UK.
Spokesperson of the health department, Meeran Yousuf also ensured that all the patients are getting best treatment from one the largest private hospitals of the city and are now in stable condition. She further shared that the department is trying to reach the contacts of these patients so that they can also be tested. The process will take around 3 to 4 days and then, their friends and relatives will also be isolated.
The health department has confirmed that all these Covid-19 positive UK returnees are Pakistani nationals. Pakistan, like several other countries, had also already banned all the UK flights keeping in view the appearance of the new variant.
