Shah Mehmood Qureshi landed United Arab Emirates on December 17th, 2020. During the two-day official visit, Foreign Minister Qureshi held bilateral talks with Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on developing and strengthening relations between the two friendly countries regarding all areas of mutual interest. FM Qureshi emphasized on the fact that Pakistan will show no normalization with Israel until there is a permanent settlement on Palestinian issue.

According to his talk with reporters in the northeastern Multan city, he has made it clear to the UAEs counterpart that Islamabad will not and cannot recognize Israel until there is ensured a concrete and permanent settlement on the issue of Palestine. He elaborated that he has also discussed the depth and emotions of Pakistani people regarding Kashmir and Palestine.  Shah Mehmood Qureshi gave this statement a day after his UAE’s visit.  The statement is viewed as a very ‘crucial’ statement due to various rumors which claim that Islamabad has secretly sent a messenger to Israel.

While discussing the pressure on Islamabad for recognizing Israel, he said that there is no pressure. He also highlighted that the we will keep the interest of Pakistan in mind while making decision on this matter instead of any pressure. Recently, Bahrain, Morocco and UAE have established diplomatic and economic relations with Israel while some other Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia are also evaluating various possibilities to normalize their relations with Tel Aviv.
