COVID-19 vaccine
During a press conference earlier this month, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Services, Dr. Faisal Sultan, and Minister Shibli Faraz talk about acquiring COVID-19 vaccine and its administration on people. It will be made possible between January to March 2021.
Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) proposed a budget of $150 million to get the vaccine, which the government has approved. He further gave details that the vaccine will be funded by the government and a further budget will be allocated for this purpose. The government is also in talks with other countries mainly China and Russia for procuring the vaccine.
During the NCOC briefing, he talked about government has started working to purchase the COVID-19 vaccine for Pakistan and they are in talks with more than one manufacturing company to sign a supply deal. A final decision will be taken only after testing the vaccine’s efficacy, safety, and side effects.
The administration of the vaccine is planned in different stages based on the population’s risk factor. Front-line healthcare workers are the top priority followed by the elderly population and other public is set on the third stage of vaccine administration. He added to take precautionary measures and follow SOPs in the meantime to stop the spread of the virus. A committee of four to five members will be set to oversee this procedure.
The rate of death due to Corona is spiking again in the second wave. As there is nothing that common people can do in this situation, it is necessary to help healthcare workers by not spreading the virus. Hopefully, once the vaccine arrives, COVID-19 can be curbed but meanwhile it is highly important to follow SOPs.
