General Bipin Rawat
Indian chief of defense staff General Bipin Rawat his wife and 11 other armed officers were killed in a helicopter accident on Wednesday 8 December around 12:20 pm. General Rawat was going to defense staff service college wellington from Sulur IAF station where he had to deliver a lecture to the students.
IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter in which general Bipin was traveling in, crashed in a rural forested area of Nilgiris district southern state of Tamil Nadu around 12:20 pm. The passengers include general Bipin, his wife Madhulika Rawat, and other army officers. The bodies of the victim were brought to the national capital Delhi on Thursday. The funeral of general Bipin Rawal will hold on Friday. General Bipin will be cremated with full military honors.
The reason of the accident was the low visibility due to fog. The mishap spot was said to be covered in thick fog. General Bipin Rawat was the first four-star chief of defense staff.

Indian defense minister Rajnath singh and PM Modi paid homage to the victims. Pm modi also went to the airport to pay tribute to CDS general Bipin Rawat and others killed in a helicopter crash.PM Modi said: “A true patriot, he greatly contributed to modernising our armed forces and security apparatus.
His insights and perspectives on strategic matters were exceptions. His passing away has saddened me deeply.”Defence Minister Rajnath Singh too expressed his sadness over the incident when he tweeted the following authenticating Gen Rawat’s death, “Deeply anguished by the sudden demise of Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 other Armed Forces personnel in an extremely disastrous helicopter accident today in Tamil Nadu. His unfortunate death is an irreparable loss to our Armed Forces and the country.”
